    Ach ja: dass die Kapitel in Datei 2 ff. wieder bei 0 beginnen, ist natürlich kein Problem. Das tun die normalen Zeitstempel der Video-/Audioblöcke ja genau so. mkvmerge addiert beim Anhängen schlicht die Dauer der vorhergehenden Dateien zu den Zeitstempeln der Kapiteleinträge hinzu – sofern sie, wie gesagt, unterschiedliche IDs haben.

    Es gab schon lange Zeit diese Möglichkeit, indem man mit --segmentinfo eine entsprechend formartierte XML-Datei benutzt hat. Seit sehr kurzer Zeit gibt's aber auch die Option --segment-uid, mit der das deutlich einfacher geht.

    h264ex benutzt mkvinfo. Ursprünglich war die Ausgabe von mkvinfo in englisch, nun ist sie in deutsch. Daher hat h264 z.B. nach "track number" anstatt nach "Tracknummer" gesucht.

    Alle mkvtoolnix-Tools unterstützen die explizite Auswahl der Programmsprache mit dem Parameter "--ui-language". Um auch in deutschen Betriebssystemen zu haben, reicht es also, das Programm mit "--ui-language en" aufzurufen, z.B. "mkvinfo --ui-language en --redirect-output output.txt yourfile.mkv"

    Hey,

    I've released mkvtoolnix v2.9.0. New features include support for chapters in MP4 files, a translation to Chinese Traditional and support for MPEG-1/-2 video in AVI files. Improvements were made to the MPEG program stream and VobSub handling code. Fixed bugs include several segfaults, crashes in the header editor and mmg always reporting that adding files has failed with a return code of 1 on certain Windows systems. Audio/video synchronization for the native MPEG-4 storage mode has been fixed.

  • [MKV] Aspect Ratio - MKVmerge

    Brother John hat's erfasst. Matroska-Dateien kennen nur zwei diskrete Werte, mit denen dem Player mitgeteilt werden kann, in welcher Auflösung das Video angezeigt werden soll. Diese heißen "display width" und "display height". Aus dem Quotienten von beiden ergibt sich das "display aspect ratio".

    Das "display aspect ratio" kann entweder vom Benutzer gesetzt werden, oder wenn es das nicht wird, dann wird es von mkvmerge automatisch berechnet. Diese Berechnung hängt vom "pixel/sample aspect ratio" ab, das in vielen MPEG-Bitstreams gespeichert wird. Die meisten davon werden ebenfalls in Form zweier ganzer Zahlen angegeben.

    Aus dem sample aspect ratio berechnet mkvmerge anhand der tatsächlichen Pixelabmessungen der Datei dann die Werte für "display width" und "display height". Dabei wird mkvmerge immer nach oben skalieren; sprich bei einer Pixelauflösung von 720x416 wird bei einem pixel aspect ratio von 16:11 dann die display width/height von 1047,22x416 (abgerundet auf 1047x416) und nicht 720x286 (was dasselbe Seitenverhältnis wäre).

    Da viele Hardwareplayer nicht so richtig gut damit zurecht kommen, wenn im Bitstream das sample aspect ratio nicht enthalten ist, wurde mkvmerge 2.7.0 so geändert, dass das sample aspect ratio nicht mehr entfernt wird. Ich persönlich halte das für totalen Blödsinn, weil der Container als umgebende Schicht viel leichter zu modifizieren ist als der darin enthaltene Bitstream, sofern man solche Angaben wie das sample aspect ratio ändern möchte -- aber gut, die Realität sieht nun mal anders aus; jeder findet sample aspect ratio im Bitstream total toll.

    Weiterhin ist klar, dass mkvmerge nicht 16:11 als display width/height speichert (bzw. den aus dem sample aspect ratio von 16:11 errechneten exakten Wert für display width/height), weil display width/height eigentlich nicht nur Auskunft über das Seitenverhältnis geben sollen, sondern über die gewünschte Auflösung beim Abspielen. Die allermeisten Player halten sich aber an diese Empfehlung nicht, sondern setzen irgendwas anderes um und benutzen display width/height ausschließlich zur Bestimmung des Seitenverhältnisses.

  • Wie Default Flag für Audio Streams in mkv umsetzen ohne remuxxen?

    Tja. Diese Flags (besser gesagt das "default track" Flag) werden von vielen Playern unterschiedlich interpretiert, und auch bei uns Menschen ist nicht ganz eindeutig, wie sie einzusetzen sind.

    Meine Interpretation:

    "Default Track" -- ist ein Track als "default" markiert, so sollte dieser abgespielt werden, sofern a) der Benutzer das Abspielen seines Typs aktiviert hat und b) der Benutzer nicht explizit in seinen Präferenzen andere Trackcharakteristika bevorzugt.

    Klingt sehr technisch; gemeint ist folgendes:

    Gibt es zwei Videotracks, so sollte nur derjenige abgespielt werden, dessen "default"-Flag gesetzt ist (VLC macht das z.B. schon mal anders, der spielt einfach beide gleichzeitig). Bei Audiotracks hingegen hat der Benutzer vielleicht im Programm eingestellt, dass er Japanisch präferiert. Dann sollte zuerst ein Audiotrack mit Sprache "Japanisch" ausgewählt werden; gibt es einen solchen nicht, dann denjenigen, dessen "default"-Flag gesetzt ist. Hat ein Untertitel-Track das "default"-Flag gesetzt, so gilt das Gleiche, aber nur, wenn der Benutzer explizit aktiviert, dass Untertitel auch angezeigt werden sollen.

    Gerade beim letzten Satz verhalten sich die Player aber meist leicht anders: besitzt ein Untertiteltrack das "default"-Flag, so wird die Untertitelanzeige von Vorneherein aktiviert.

    De facto ist es also in der Praxis heute am sinnvollsten, bei Video- und Audiotracks bei genau einem Track das "default"-Flag zu setzen und es bei allen Untertiteltracks nicht zu setzen.

    Das "forced"-Flag hingegen sollte so interpretiert werden, wie man es von Untertiteln kennt; z.B. wenn im Herrn der Ringe die Elfen anfangen, Elfisch zu reden, dann sollte auf jeden Fall die Untertitelspur angezeigt werden, in der die Übersetzung nur dieser Elfischen Sätze enthalten ist. Anders als das "default"-Flag ist das "forced"-Flag auch nicht darauf beschränkt, dass innerhalb eines Tracktyps (Audio, Video, Untertitel) nur ein Track dieses Flag aktiviert hat.

    Wie es in der Praxis mit dem "forced"-Flag aussieht, kann ich nicht beurteilen.

  • MKV Kopfdaten konnten nicht gelesen werden, häh?

    Die von allen meinen mkv*-Programmen verwendeten Bibliotheken zum Lesen und Schreiben von Matroska-Dateien können mit deiner Datei ab einer bestimmten Stelle nicht mehr umgehen. Daran kann ich vermutlich nicht viel ändern.

    Wenn du willst, dass ich mir die Datei trotzdem mal ansehe, dann lad mir bitte mal die ersten 20 MB der Datei auf meinen FTP-Server hoch (Adresse: ftp.bunkus.org, Benutzername: upload; Passwort: only).
