VideoLinux brings a wealth of Open Source Video Tools to the desktop, the highlights i have listed in more detail below but also includes Audio & Video Players (xmms,kaffeine, xine), text editors,
Web Browsers (Firefox) FTP client, Network tools, Development Eniviroments, plus many others too many to mention with access to thousands more applications stored in online repositries which can be installed / de installed through Synaptic a fantastic and easy to use GUI upgrade tool.
All of this enclosed in a user friendly OS ideal for the Linux newbie and experienced user alike

Kino
###########
Kino is a non-linear DV editor for GNU/Linux. It features excellent integration with IEEE-1394 for capture, VTR control, and recording back to the camera. It captures video to disk in Raw DV and AVI format, in both type-1 DV and type-2 DV (separate audio stream) encodings.
You can load multiple video clips, cut and paste portions of video/audio, and save it to an edit decision list (SMIL XML format). Most edit and navigation commands are mapped to equivalent vi key commands. Also, Kino can export the composite movie in a number of formats: DV over IEEE 1394, Raw DV, DV AVI, still frames, WAV, MP3, Ogg Vorbis, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4. Still frame import and export uses gdk-pixbuf, which has support for BMG, GIF, JPEG, PNG, PPM, SVG, Targa, TIFF, and XPM. MP3 requires lame. Ogg Vorbis requires oggenc. MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 require mjpegtools or ffmpeg. MPEG-4 requires ffmpeg.
Current release
The current release introduces an experimental fx module, which is accessed from the FX tab in the main window. It provides some basic audio and video fx such as importing, filters and transitions for audio and video. It also provides some basic plug-in functionality to allow third party extension.
Currently, Kino does not support other video file formats or encodings. It does not support multiple layers or tracks of video and audio. We plan to implement most of these features, but first we chose to focus on the basics of IEEE-1394, video, audio, and file input and output. We place a lot of emphasis on quality, stability, performance, and workflow.

AcidRip 0.14
################
AcidRip is a Gtk::Perl application for ripping and encoding DVD's. It neatly
wraps MPlayer and MEncoder, which I think is pretty handy, seeing as MPlayer
is by far the best bit of video playing kit around for Linux. As well as
creating a simple Graphical Interface for those scared of getting down and
dirty with MEncoders command line interface, It also automates the process in
a number of ways:
* Parses DVD into contents tree
* Finds longest title
* Calculate video bitrate for given filesize
* Finds black bands and crops them
* Gives suggestions for improved performance
##################
Avidemux 2.1.0
##################
is a small editing software for avi (especially DivX)
With avidemux you can open divx, process the audio track with
the included filters and save a part of the avi (i.e. split).
De-multiplex audio & video is also possible, the audio track
can be coming from the avi or an external Wav/MP3 file.
K9Copy
k9copy - DVD9 to DVD5 Copier
K9Copy is a small utility which allows the copy of DVD9 to a DVD5 on Linux.
The DVD video stream is compressed by the program Vamps.
1. Copy without menus :
In this case, dvdauthor is used to create a new DVD structure. It is possible to choose the order in which the video sequences are played.
2. Copy with menus :
As dvdauthor does not make it possible to integrate the original menus, K9Copy reproduces the original structure of the DVD. The navigation packs as well as IFO files are modified to point on the compressed MPEG stream.

KLVEmkdvd
############
DVD authoring GUI
Klvemkdvd is able to build (and burn) DVD filesystems from
various mpeg media files.
The main intention of klvemkdvd is to build DVDs from
project files (edit lists) created with lve editor,
but it can use other kind of mpegs (VOB, TS, PS, PVA, ...)
as input also.

Kmenc15
##########
Advanced KDE MEncoder frontend
Kmenc15 is an advanced Qt/KDE MEncoder frontend,
generally designed to be a VirtualDub replacement for Linux.
It is most useful for editing and encoding large high quality
AVIs capped from TV. It allows cutting and merging at exact frames,
applying any MPlayer/MEncoder filter, with preview.

Kdenlive
##############
Kdenlive! (pronounced Kay-den-live) is a Non-Linear Video Editing Suite for KDE. It is released under the GNU Public License.
Kdenlive uses Piave as it's video rendering engine to display and manipulate video clips. We have now reached our first milestone release.
Kdenlive is being developed as a suite of several seperate programs, to aid in the reuse of resources and to allow the program to be spread across multiple computers. The following programs have so far been defined.
The Modular Approach
The editor (named Kdenlive), allows the user to create a video editing project in a user friendly environment.
The Rendering program, (Piave, by Rolf Dubitzky) takes the Scenelist generated by the editor and renders it. Also in charge of playback within the editor, but can be used as a standalone application.
Features
Kdenlive is currently under heavy development. Here are the features that are present in the most recent release...
* DV quality editing.
* Resize, move, and cut an unlimited number of clips of any length.
* Unlimted number of tracks for editing.
* Dual video monitors, both capable of playback.
* Drag-n-Drop compatability with external programs, such as Konqueror and Noatun.
* Can read raw DV and AVI DV files.
* French translation.
Future Features
A detailed rundown of the features of future Kdenlive releases is shown in the Roadmap. Here is a quick overview...
* Professional quality non-linear video/audio editing.
* Fade, Alpha transparency, Chroma key, speedup, slowdown and other standard effects.
* Hardware acceleration support.
* Support for GIMP plugins and EffecTV effects, amongst others
* Batch rendering, network rendering, background rendering.
* Support for multiple video formats, multiple audio formats, and various picture formats.
* Built in movie capture.
* Built in or standalone project/asset management system.
